Greg and I have established a tradition of going to pick our own pumpkins every October, and it’s something that we both really look forward to. This is our sixth year of keeping that tradition! We’ve gone to a few different places over the years, and went somewhere new this weekend, upon the recommendation of our good friends Mic and Brie.
Last year, we went to Mayne’s farm (which is also where we got our Christmas tree!) and really loved it. But, when I was talking to Brie during our hike the other day, she suggested that we all go to Jumbo’s, because they also have a little petting zoo. That sold it for me! She also made the brilliant suggestion of going late in the afternoon, and then coming back to have food and beer afterwards.
Around 5:00 on Saturday, we all headed over to Jumbo’s. When we got there, I immediately made a bee-line for the petting zoo! There were cute little piggies:
Goats
a Border Collie (just like my dog Scotty from when I was a kid!)
Sheep
There were also cows, donkeys and horses… I loved it!
We got on a hayride to take us over to the pumpkin patch
The view was so beautiful out there
And a perfect opportunity for me to try out the panoramic feature on my iPhone!

Greg also found his pretty quickly, but as usual, kept seeing others that he might want instead.
And, us usual, he ended up going with his original choice (which was a good one!).

Mic and Brie got one big pumpkin to share.
We left the pumpkin patch and came back to our house for dinner, which was delicious! Tempeh/edamame tacos with all the fixins’ and some delicious rice that Brie made.
There aren’t many things in life that are better than tacos. Well, except maybe BEER.
We tried the Oatmeal Stout, the Pilsner and the Floral IPA (all of which were delicious!) along with a few different seasonal/pumpkin beers. I do love a beer tasting!
For dessert, I made vegan cinnamon raisin bread pudding and topped it with the best dairy free ice cream ever (seriously, it is the best I’ve ever tasted!).
The photo sucks, but we were all in a lovely dessert coma after this. What a perfect way to end a great evening with friends.:)

I’ve never been to a pumpkin patch, but after this year’s adventure with apple picking, I’d like to make that a tradition! I loved it. Looks like you guys had a great time, and the dinner that followed sounds amazing.
That looks like so much fun. Have you ever been to Butler’s Orchard (near Germantown)? I used to go there all the time as a kid.
I’ve been to Butler’s, but never for pumpkin picking. We always went to Rock Hill Orchard, which was a little further north past Damascus, near Mt. Airy. Greg always went to Butler’s though!
We’re attempting apple picking again this up coming weekend with my aunt and uncle but I might have to make a case to get some pumpkins too!!
I have not been to a pumpkin patch in years. Petting zoo’s however, I will hit one up every chance I get! I love petting zoos! Its like I think that my little handful of grain is going to make the goats day. And that makes me feel good!
Petting zoos are the best! There’s a really big one about 20 minutes north of my house. I need to go make a visit there and feed some goats!
I don’t think I’ve ever been!! My uncle always grew them on his farm and brought them by the truckload to our house where we would sell them on the corner. Best job ever!!! Whoa. I had no clue the iPhone has that under options! Awesome! I have to say that you are looking gorgeous!!!!!

Amanda, definitely make the bread pudding. It is SO good. I actually like it better with tofu than I did with egg (and Greg did too!)

I don’t go every year, but I wish I did! I need to organize a group. Also, I want to go to the “Beer Camp.” Their marketing person is brilliant.
Making an event out of it and dinner afterwards is the way to go!

I didn’t know you could do a panoramic photo!! Fun! I want to go pick asap! We usually pick apples every year, but the hubby is busy writing his dissertation this year. Bummer!

Aww, what a FUN day! I’ve never actually been pumpkin picking before, but I just found out that there is a pumpkin farm in the city next to me. It also has a petting zoo and other fun stuff…like ZIP LINES! Ahhhh, total bucket list item!!

I’m telling you- the carrot cake ice cream is probably in the top 5 ice creams I’ve ever had. And that’s saying A LOT. Ice cream is my favorite thing in the whole world (and vanilla is my #1!).
