Pumpkin Pie Steamer

Want to hear something that you probably already know?

I love pumpkin.

I know that pumpkin is something that most people associate with the fall, but for me, it’s something that I use year-round (and generally have at least 3 cans of it in my pantry at all times). And I’ve been known to be somewhat of a canned pumpkin hoarder and stock up whenever I can find a good deal on it…

When September rolled around, everyone was suddenly excited about the return of pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks.

They’re good… but I’ve got something that (to me) tastes even better.

This little cup of deliciousness right here: the pumpkin pie steamer.

It’s SO good, and makes for the perfect after-dinner drink (but could certainly be enjoyed at any time of day!) It’s also incredibly easy to make, and just requires a few ingredients that you probably already have on hand.

And in less than five minutes, you can turn this

Into this.

I’ve been drinking this every single day… and have no plans of stopping any time soon.

Here’s how to make it:

Pumpkin Pie Steamer
(serves 1)

1/4 c. pumpkin puree

2-3 T water

1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice

1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

sweetener, to taste (I used one packet of NuNaturals stevia)

8-10 oz. milk (I use Silk unsweetened vanilla almond milk)

Place the pumpkin puree and water into a mug and stir well. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir in pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract and sweetener. Pour the milk into the mug and stir well. Heat for an additional 60-90 seconds, depending on hot you want your drink to be. Stir and enjoy. Optional: top off with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

I’m pretty sure that a little bit of rum or whiskey would pair really well with this drink, but unfortunately, don’t have any on hand to experiment with. If you do, please try it out and let me know how it is!

    • I’ll tell ya- I got a pumpkin latte at Baltimore Coffee and Tea and got 1/2 the pumps of the pumpkin stuff- and it was PERFECT.

  5. No way!! I just saw that video! I was thinking how poised you were. But where were the dogs!!!?? Next time. I like the pumpkin steamer idea. I’ve seen a few fall drinks online, but that one is not so complicated. And that brand is super expensive at our Sprouts!!

    • Lol- the dogs were outside of the door whining. How dare I ever shut a door and not let them in!
      Yeah- that pumpkin is $3.49 per can at the organic market!

    I’m so glad pumpkin is easy to be found again…the pumpkin drought of 2010 nearly KILLED me! Lol I swear since I cracked open my first can last month, I’ve yet to go more than 2 days without it!

    I like a good (spiked) apple cider every once in a while, but my new favorite “fall beverage” would have to be the pumpkin ale from Blackstone Brewery that I tried at Oktoberfest last weekend…BEST seasonal ale I’ve tried so far!

    • I rarely ever put any effort into taking pictures, and when I do I’m like “that wasn’t so hard- you need to do that more!”

      Ooh I’ll have to get my hands on that pumpkin ale. I had some pumpkin cider at Harpoon this weekend that was SO FANTASTIC.

  20. I am soooo addicted to this!! I am not a vegan, but I try to eat/drink healthy. I tried to make it taste even more like a pumpkin pie so I made it with fat free evaporated milk and topped it with coconut whipped cream. OMG!! It is beyond fabulous! Thank you!

  21. Hey Lauren, great recipe! I’m not a fan of microwaves, so we don’t have one in our home, but I just wanted to share that it’s very easy to make this on the stove top. And it’s still very yummy! Best from Germany!
