5×5 For Friday II: Holiday Edition!

Happy Friday, folks. Did you win the lottery? Yeah, neither did I. I took a look back at the list that I made during the last big Mega Millions jackpot yesterday and I would still do the exact same thing with my winnings!

I made a 5×5 for Friday post back in October, and thought it would be fun to do another one today. This time, I gave it a holiday theme! Nothing like a little mindless fun, right? If you have a blog, feel free to copy the categories and paste them on your own!

5×5: Holiday Edition!

5 traditions that I look forward to every holiday season:

1. Cutting down my own Christmas tree and spending a night decorating it (while blasting some Christmas tunes and drinking hot chocolate)

2. Seeing the amazing, tacky and wonderful lights display on the street perpendicular to mine (where almost all of the houses go all out with lights, inflatables, etc.) where all of the houses look like this:

and the holiday lights on Market Street in downtown Frederick (this picture is from my friend Jessica):

3. Holiday parties every weekend (especially when they include ugly sweaters)

4. Christmas eve at my mom’s house

5. Buying and wrapping presents. I swear, I get more excited about buying gifts for other people than I do myself!

Affordable, Adorable Workout Clothes From PV.Body

I’m a big fan of functional, cute workout apparel. With my career, I spend about 75% of my life wearing exercise clothes- and comfort and support are my top priorities. And, of course, I only want to buy clothing that I think is going to look good on me and flatter my body.

I had met some of the representatives from Puravit/PV.Body at Fitbloggin’ back in September. I remembered them well because they were the providers of this sweet tank top.

I get a lot of smiles and compliments on this top every time I wear it to teach classes at the gym. :)

WIAW 16: And Then, There Were Eggs.

Happy WIAW, friends! If you couldn’t guess from the title of today’s post, I did indeed eat some eggs. After six weeks without any eggs, meat or dairy, eggs were the only thing that I really missed. I went and bought a carton of them from a nearby farmer that raises happy, free-roaming chickens. I was definitely happy to bring them back into my diet this past Monday! And- I incorporated them into every single meal.

Since I love the way that Cassie lays out her WIAW posts, I’m copying her idea for mine today. Disclaimer: these photos suck. Obviously I need to check to make sure that they are focused after I take them. And I will also choose a prettier cloth next time to shoot against. Oye.

Mile-High Friendships

I’ve been really lucky to meet some amazing friends in Colorado. And you know how I met all of them? Through blogging! I met several of my Colorado friends at the Blend Retreat last May, and I met a few others during my trip last July. I even met another Colorado blogger at Fitbloggin’. The funny thing is- a lot of them met each other through blogging as well. And because of wonderful things like email, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, I’m easily able to stay in touch with my friends that live way over on the other side of the country.

On my most recent trip to Colorado, I was able to see several of my Colorado friends- and some I even got to hang out with multiple times! First up was a dinner/yoga date with Kelly G!

The Vegan Experiment: 6 Weeks

Screen shot 2012-11-25 at 5.38.35 PM

Just about a month and a half ago, Greg I decided to give up all meat, dairy, eggs and any other food that came from an animal for six week.

See these cute little piggies? We didn’t eat any of them.

Okay, maybe that was in poor taste….

Six weeks later, I’m feeling good! Time really flew by, and I could easily go for another six weeks. Heck, I think that I could continue with a vegan diet… but I’m not going to 100%. Here are some of my thoughts on the six weeks of the vegan experiment:

A Veggie Thanksgiving

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday, and are going to be enjoying all of the delicious leftovers all weekend long. Our fridge is stuffed with all kinds of yummy food from yesterday, and I can’t wait to dig back into it!

When I first decided to do the vegan experiment, I planned for it to “end” on Thanksgiving, so that I could eat turkey. But, as the day approached, I decided that I really didn’t want to stop just yet and to give it a full 6 weeks (which would “end” this coming Sunday… but I’ll get into that later). Greg did eat turkey- and I’m sure he loved every bite of it! For me, turkey isn’t the food that I look forward to most on Thanksgiving- it’s all about the sides!

Our Thanksgiving dinner was very low-key, and that was really nice. We usually go over to my mom and stepdad’s house, along with all of my siblings, their spouses and kids. That’s a pretty large group. And while I love getting together with my family, sometimes it’s nice to just have a smaller production. All of my siblings ended up going to their in-law’s houses, and my mom and stepdad (Joe) came over to have dinner with Greg and me. Since I wasn’t eating turkey, and didn’t plan on buying one, my mom happily roasted one herself and brought it over for her, Joe and Greg to enjoy.

I started out my day the same way that I’ve started every Thanksgiving morning for the last four years- by teaching a super tough, sweaty Spinning class. I wouldn’t have it any other way! I was home and showered a little after 9:00 and quickly gobbled (hehe) down some oatmeal before getting to work.

Greg and I started prepping and cooking everything around 10:30 am, and by 2:00, it was all done! Not too shabby. Before the meal, we all munched on some snacks.

WIAW 15: Vegan In Colorado

native greg

Hello friends! Well, I’m safely back in Maryland after a wonderful week in Colorado. I can’t say that I’m thrilled to be back home, but I sure did miss these two.

I’ll be writing about different aspects of my awesome trip over the next week or so, but today it’s all about the food.

Flashback: 2002

My first “blog” was a Livejournal, which I started near the end of my senior year of college (2002). Did anyone else have one of those?

It was basically a place for me to write random thing, and fill out LOTS of surveys. I was looking around at my Livejournal (which is still “live!”) and could not stop laughing at the things that I wrote about. Boy, has life changed a lot in 10 years. Just for fun, I’m pasting a survey below (and filling in commentary/updates) that I posted (almost exactly) 10 years ago! Just to catch you up to speed, I was 22, living in Baltimore, and about to graduate from UMBC with a degree in Graphic Design.

Here goes:

Colorado Flashback

Happy Friday friends! I’m spending the day today hiking with my wonderful blends Corrie, Heidi and Kelly! I’m so excited to be able to see them again and enjoy the beautiful Colorado landscape. To add icing to the cake, I’m also getting together with three other blends for dinner: Lena, Tiffany and Diana! I am one lucky girl to have such amazing friends.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you are probably well aware of my Colorado obsession. But, if you’re a newbie, it may all be news to you! I wanted to take a moment to reflect back on some of my history with this lovely state, and the incredible friends that I’ve made along the way.

My love affair with Colorado started in 2009.
