Family Day Out

Happy “last day of 2012″ everyone! I plan on posting some of my thoughts and reflections on the last year and ideas for the year ahead, but that can wait until at least tomorrow. I hope you enjoyed your last weekend of the year and all of those final holiday celebrations. I had a great time with my family on Saturday. It all began at this little duckpin bowling alley…

I hadn’t been there for years, but actually used to bowl on a league there when I was a kid! The funny things is, it seemed so big to me back then… and it’s actually very small! Between the 13 of us, we pretty much took over the place!

My Christmas [So Far!]

christmas breakfast

It always seems a little surreal that Christmas has come and gone. You spend so many weeks building up to the big day, and it’s gone just like that. Well, except for me, it’s really not. I still have a few more “Christmas” get-togethers over the next few days, and then it will be time to celebrate New Year’s right after that!

We have a few Christmas traditions in my family, but for the most part, we do something a little different each year. Starting with Christmas Eve… It was a pretty regular day in that I got up, taught some classes and trained clients. I was done by noon and headed out to do some last minute shopping. Luckily, I was able to get in and out of the mall pretty quickly and found what I needed right away! Greg had to work until mid-afternoon and then we headed over to my mom and stepdad’s house to visit and eat dinner. Right before we left, it started snowing, and just got heavier as the night went on. My (oldest) brother and his girlfriend (and her daughter) were there, and it was fun to hang out with them. Our plan was originally to drive around and look at Christmas lights, but the snow caused us to alter those plans and just go back home. Greg and I finished off the night by watching one of our favorite Christmas classics, Bad Santa. :)

WIAW 20: On Christmas

breakfast

Hello! Did you have a good Christmas? I sure did- and am going to give you just a little peek today at what I did yesterday- starting with what I ate.

I don’t really have a “tradition” for what I make for breakfast on Christmas morning- I think I’ve made something different every year! When I was growing up, my mom always made an egg casserole. I haven’t attempted that one yet- maybe sometime in the future. For this year, I baked some delicious eggnog scones and served them with fruit salad and scrambled eggs.

Holiday Gatherings

Merry Christmas Eve!

What a fun weekend with friends! On Saturday, I met up with fellow bloggers Ashley, Kelly, Dawn and Hilary for lunch and a Secret Santa gift exchange!

I have known Ashley for quite a while now, but had met the other three for the first time at Fitbloggin’ back in September. We all hit it off that weekend and planned to get together soon, so we finally did! Ashley was wonderful to organize everything and used Elfster to keep our gift exchange a true secret (it draws everyone’s names and no one knows who anyone else has).

12 [Affordable, Healthy] Last-Minute Gift Ideas

balega

Well, it’s the last Friday before Christmas. And, if you’re like me, you still haven’t finished shopping! Yes, I will be out this weekend (and probably Monday too!) with all of the craziness trying to check everyone off the list.

It always seems that some people are so easy to shop for, and then there’s others that always present a challenge. What do you get for someone that has everything? Or someone that you just have no idea what to get? I like to think of gift ideas that are thoughtful, practical and that the recipient might not even know he/she wants. It’s easy to go out and buy some Christmas candy or bake a batch of delicious Christmas cookies (and really, those can be fantastic gifts!), but for today, I want to share a few healthier ideas.

#1. A subscription to NatureBox

Naturebox is a really cool concept. Each month, they put together a box of goodies to show up on your doorstep! Each monthly box if filled with five different bags of delicious, healthy snacks that taste great and you can feel good about. The cost is $19.95 a month, which is definitely less than you would pay when purchasing the five items separately.  There are different options for subscriptions- either month-to-month, 6 months (you get 1 month free!) or 12 months (you get 3 months free!). If you choose the month-to-month subscription, you can use the code “PISTACHIO” at checkout for 25% off your order (that’s just $14.95 for a whole box of snacks!).

#2. Balega running socks

I can’t even remember how long ago I discovered these socks, but they are pretty much all that I ever wear (even if I’m not wearing them to run!)

WIAW 19: It Was All Good.

Happy Wednesday! In case you missed it, go check out the latest KINDSnacks giveaway - it’s extra special this month!!

Do you ever have one of those days where every single bite of food is delicious?

I actually try to make every day like that, because there’s just way too much good food out there to settle for something sub-par. In fact, there’s not much that bums me out more than having a bad meal at a restaurant (first world problems, I know).

Monday was one of those delicious days…. and it all started with breakfast.

After an early morning of teaching Spinning and Bodypump,I was craving pancakes! I came right home and whipped these up!

A Very Merry [KIND] Giveaway

kindstocking

I don’t know about you guys, but I think I actually get more excited to give presents than to receive them. Sure, I love getting gifts- who doesn’t? But, there’s just something about picking out thoughtful gifts for the ones that you love.

Since I can’t pick out gifts for each and every one of you personally (though I wish I could), I’m going to do the next best thing.

How about a whole stocking full of goodies from KIND Snacks?*

DDF Skincare Products

Sometimes I forget how old I am.

I often catch myself thinking that I’m still a 20 year old kid, and then have to snap back into reality that I’m approaching my mid 30s. And don’t get me wrong- I am proud and happy of my age and know that (relatively speaking) I’m still young. However, the older I get, the more I notice that my body is going to continue to change. One thing that I need to start really paying attention to is caring for my skin. I know that it can be a pain to moisturize, wear sunblock, put on anti-wrinkle cream, etc. but I know that I will be very glad that I did 10, 20, 30 years from now and beyond.

I recently discovered a company called DDF (Doctor’s Dermatologic Formula) that specializes in a variety of skincare products and anti-aging treatments. As I looked over the company’s website, I immediately started finding products that I wanted to try out. One product really stood out to me and caught my attention right away: The DDF Revolve 400x

DDF Revolve 400X delivers a significant reduction in pore appearance, fine lines, and a boost in skin evenness, tone and radiance with results that are as effective as a professional treatment.
