Resolution & Happy Things Jar


I know I’m a few days late here, but I’m finally going to write about my New Year’s Resolution. I know that New Year’s Resolutions get a lot of negative press, but I personally think that they are fantastic. Each year, I try to think of a goal that is small and achievable and will make my life just a little less better, stress-free and well-rounded.

I constantly want to lose weight, eat more mindfully, sleep more and stress less… so I won’t be listing any of those things as my resolution for 2013. What I have chosen to focus on really isn’t a big deal at all, but it’s something that I’ve been wanting to commit to and have been too lazy to do. I bet you’re all on pins and needles right now wondering what that is! My resolution for 2013 is to read more books.

Yeah, I know. It sounds kind of silly. But, it’s a pretty big deal to me! I tend to get really lazy after dinner and sit in front of the tv (usually with either my iPhone and/or iPad in hand as well). It’s a bad habit that Greg and I have together. I got better about it for a little while, but then slipped back into my old ways last month. So, I’m swapping some of the digital entertainment in my life (tv, phone, computer, etc.) for good old-fashioned books.

You see, I grew up a voracious reader. I would stay up all night to finish a book. I couldn’t get enough! I never had a television or phone in my room when I was growing up, so books were my entertainment. After college, I got my own place and put a tv in my bedroom. And the reading of books slowly became fewer and farther between. Pretty soon, I wasn’t reading at all.

I got a few books for Christmas from my mom and bought one for myself as well.
