My Favorite Mug ♥ (WIAW 23)

Hello, Wednesday. Nice to see you!

For today’s WIAW post, I’m taking it back to last Sunday. There wasn’t really anything special about this particular Sunday, except that it was the weekend… and that’s always just a little bit special.

After teaching Spinning class, I came home ravenous and quickly made myself a bowl of perfect oatmeal.

I’ve been cooking my oatmeal a little different lately- using Holly’s method for banana custard oats (keep in mind, Holly is the genius that came up with beer crust pizza!). I still use my same ingredients:

But instead of boiling the water first and then adding in ingredients as I usually do, I put everything into a pot, stir it well, and let it cook (and stir it a few more times).

It just seems easier, and for some reason, it tastes better!

Along with my oatmeal, I had a cup of coffee using my new favorite mug! My very thoughtful friend Kelly sent it to me “just because” she knew I’d love it! And I do! I actually wash it by hand each time I use it, because it’s pretty much the only cup I want to drink from.

And yes, you can drink water from a mug. It tastes the same.

Isn’t the little design at the bottom adorable?

For lunch, I made my latest favorite salad:

Chopped up roasted Brussels sprouts mixed in (a little) maple syrup, liquid smoke, dijon mustard and lemon juice.

I also had a sandwich.

That’s a Rudi’s organic whole wheat (toasted) sandwich thin, lettuce, tomato, pickle, cucumber, brown mustard and a piece of Twin Oaks Fine Herb tofu.

One more thing:

I love these! I got this idea from the always creative Lindsay. I mix a cup of plain Greek yogurt with 1/2 c. almond milk, 1/2 c granola and a handful of fruit (this was chopped up cranberries and pears). I pour them mixture into an ice cube tray (plus part of a second one) and freeze. Once frozen, pop out the “fro yo” blocks and store in a container. Genius, I tell you!

A little later in the afternoon, I had some chopped carrots and apples.

I keep a container like this right in front of my fridge at all times, so that when I’m feeling hungry, it’s the first thing I go for. (I’m a recovering nut/trail mix addict!)

And for my “official” afternoon snack, a blueberry protein muffin topped with a bit of plain Greek yogurt.

Dinner was thrown together really quickly- using up a few items in the freezer that needed to be used up!

That’s a salad with a Sol Cuisine black bean burger and some tortilla “chips” (just cut up roasted corn tortillas). The dressing is a mix of plain Greek yogurt and salsa. Simple and delicious.

I’m sad to say that the dreaded day has come. My local organic co-op stopped selling my beloved Concorde Pears. Now I’m in search of a new pear love (I bought Bosc, but they’re not the same…).

Instead of a pear, my dessert was a cup of tea (I’ll let you guess the flavor) with a bit of almond milk and 50 calorie VitaCake.

Not quite as good as my juicy pear. But drinking tea from that mug made up for it. :)

Do you have a favorite mug or drinking glass (or any vessel!) that you use over and over again?

  1. LOVE your favorite mug. :)

  2. cute mug! A few years ago my sister and I hand painted some mugs for my parents for Christmas. They loved them so much they would NOT use them. My sister and I had to remind them we made them for them to USE and if anything happened, we’d make them new ones. :)

    P.S. How are those vitacakes?

    • They’re OKAY. Not great, but okay for something to grab quickly when I’m feeling too lazy to put any effort into even chopping up an apple or pear. :)

  3. I love my vitamuffins! Last night for dessert I had a warm chocolate vitamuffin with peanut butter and frozen yogurt. It was amazing!

  4. haha I put everything in a pot too, but i don’t call it a method, i call it being lazy. :)

  5. I really like those Vita-cakes and really, all the Vita products. Have you seen that ad that they’re coming out with a Vita-Pizza?

  6. I’ve never tried carrots & apple together. Thanks for the idea ;)

  7. I love your posts about what you ate! I’m always looking for new ideas. I’m wondering- do you count calories or anything like that? Or just eat nutritiously?

    • I don’t talk about it on my blog, but I started doing Weight Watchers about 5 weeks ago (so I count points). When I’m not doing that, I just try to eat intuitively… but that hasn’t been going so well for me. I need something to be accountable to- and tracking definitely helps with that!

  8. Carrots & apples together remind me of my childhood. Hehe ;) Love it. I need to make more protein muffins–yours looks awesome!

  9. I myself am an oatmeal addict. Did you use bananas and cranberries for your oatmeal cause that looks super good! :) Just stopping by from WIAW!

  10. Banana custard oats sounds freakin fantastic.

Beautiful protein muffin! I love the looks of them. Super easy and delicious :)

  11. Yum! Those oats look delicious! So does the rest of your food! I love the frozen greek yogurt cube idea. I’m going to have to try that! I’m sure my son would love it too!

  12. I need to try those fro yo blocks! Yum! Although, the temps have been in the single digits and teens around here lately, so anything frozen or cold isn’t the most appealing at the moment. They sound like the perfect summer snack though!

  13. Your perfect oatmeal looks well, perfect:) Happy WIAW!

  14. Mmm the oatmeal does look great, I am going to look into trying that method! And yeah, the froyo blocks are a good idea too… might just save it for summer though, too cold right now haha

  15. This post is so stinkin’ cute. I love that you LOVE the mug, and I can’t believe I didn’t look inside to see the cute outdoorsy scene going on in there! xoxo

  16. Love the mug!!!

  17. One favorite is from Harvard Book Store – it says “Caution – Hot and Literate.” :)

  18. I have a favorite tea mug, a favorite oatmeal spoon, a favorite straight-from-the-jar nut butter spoon, and a favorite bowl that I eat from every single night. :)

Love the idea of salsa and yogurt for dressing…I put salsa on my salad for ‘dressing’ as it is–usually with hummus, too–and love the creaminess when it comes together, so I can only imagine how good that is!

And two other genius moves: the Brussels salad, and cooking everything all at once in your oats. Love.

  19. holla for custard oats! they are one of my all-time faves. for realz. hope you had a great weekend!

  20. My favorite mug is a holiday mug which I drink out of year round. I love the ice cube idea; it’s fantastic and keeping chopped carrot and apples handy in the fridge. I too have a nut addiction, but I think I’m still in denial.
My guess for your last cup of tea would be Chai.

  1. [...] And, as you can see, coffee was enjoyed from my favorite mug. [...]
