Jillian + Popchips [Giveaway!]

Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope that your week if off to a good start and that you are enjoying these last few days of winter. I’m sure you know (because I’ve mentioned it, oh, 100 times in the last month?) that I am very much ready for spring and everything that comes along with it. So long sweaters, heavy coats and gloves… hello, flip flops!

Today I’m going to talk to you about two things that I am a big fan of: Jillian Michaels and healthy, convenient snacks. One of my favorite (convenient, portion-controlled) healthy snacks is Popchips. And I love me some Popchips. I haven’t found a single flavor that I haven’t liked yet- and it seems like there are new flavors coming out all the time!

So, you can imagine my excitement when I found this box of delicious goodness waiting at my front door over the weekend.

Chili potato lime? Sour cream and onion? Thai sweet chili potato?! Yes, please!

Here’s a look at the nutritional stats (the single serve bags are just 100 calories!):

I’m thinking that these will be very handy when I have to drive across the country at the end of next month!

On to the other topic that I mentioned loving: Jillian Michaels! I’ve been a big fan of The Biggest Loser from the very beginning and also own all of her books (Master Your Metabolism is my favorite) and several of her workout DVDs. So, of course, I was thrilled when I recently saw that Jillian had come out with a new book!

thin for life book-cover

Oh, yeah!

To give you a sneak peek of what’s inside, here’s a few tips from Jillian about how to get healthier this year:

• Make a resolution…and keep it. Resolutions shouldn’t be something you wait for so this new year, resolve to do it and resolve to start now!

• It’s all about balance. Eating three balanced meals (every four hours) with a snack between lunch and dinner is key.  Reach for a healthier snack like carrot sticks and hummus, fresh fruit, or curb salty cravings with tasty snacks such as popchips or almonds and dried cranberries.

• Just because it’s not fried, doesn’t mean it’s not delicious!  If you are in the mood to nosh, replace fried potato chips with a healthier alternative that still will satisfy that salty crave.  Popchips are a great and my favorite snack option! they taste delicious and have less than half the fat of fried chips and only 100 calories in the single serve bag.

• Grab a buddy. It’s a fact that you will achieve greater success when you have the support of those closest to you.  so get your friends together to support each other in being healthier in 2013.

• Create healthier alternatives to your favorite fried foods. Opt for cooking methods that use little or no fat such as steaming, grilling, baking, popping, broiling or roasting.  you can still make these items taste great with the right seasoning!  have a weakness for fried chicken?  Instead take skinless chicken breast cutlets, cover them in egg whites and a crushed up cereal like cornflakes, and bake.  Same great taste and more than half the calories and fat.

Great tips, huh?

So, here’s the deal. Jillian is a huge fan of Popchips, and has graciously offered to give away a signed copy of her new book Slim for Life to one lucky reader! And that’s not all- you will also get a month’s supply of Popchips in a variety of flavors! Just when I thought I couldn’t love Popchips any more…

To enter, just leave a comment below telling me your favorite tip for healthy living! I will be choosing a winner on Friday, March 22nd at 8pm EST. Contest open to U.S. residents only.

I’ll let you in on a little secret too- there will be another (very different and exciting!) Popchips giveaway coming up on this blog in the very near future! ;)

My favorite health advice is to make little changes one at a time, and they will eventually add up to a big change. Drink water instead of pop today, go for a short walk over lunch, etc. and all of these changes will eventually add up!

  • My favorite tip is just to drink more water! I can’t tell you how much better I feel when I’m hydrated.

  • My favorite tip is to track, track, track. Water, exercise, food. It’s a great way to stay accountable, track progress and to keep health at the forefront of your mind.

  • Mandy

My favorite tip is to eat everything in moderation! That way, you can enjoy desserts and such without feeling guilty! :)

  • Renata

My favorite tip for healthy living is to hydrate and drink plenty of pure water! Stay far away from sugary drinks and sodas with no nutritional value and full of sugary calories!

  • I love Popchips! My favorite healthy living tip is that you never regret a workout!

  • Natalie S

My tip for healthy living is to get plenty of sleep each night. Without sufficient sleep, your body doesn’t run as well!

  • Lee

My favorite tip is to bring my lunch to work most days.

  • Christine

My favorite tip is everything in moderation! Giving up dessert makes me miserable — 2 bites of dessert makes me happy. Happy = healthy!

  • wendy r.

My favorite tip is to be mindful about what I eat and why I eat it. Paying attention to the little queues makes a big difference!

  • Lauren

My favorite tip is to plan, plan, plan! Having healthy snacks like chopped veggies in the fridge is key to success.

  • Ray S

My healthy tip is to just exercise daily no matter what! Even if you can’t make it to the gym for a full workout session, go outside and take a brisk 15 minute walk to stretch your muscles. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Jackie L

My healthy tip of the day is ” VARITY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE” – Have varity in your meals, snacks, workouts, and your ways to relax and unwind!

  • Jenny Scheldberg

I’ve lost 20 lbs since Jan 8th. What has helped has been reading labels, paying attention to serving sizes has helped me treamendously. Before I thought a full bowl of cereal was 1 serving. Just being more aware of what I’m putting into my body along with exercise has been the secret to weight loss all along. No magic pill will get me there, its all about ME taking action of my body.

  • Megan

My favorite tip is drink lots of water. It keeps you hydrated and helps stave off hunger!

  • I love Popchips and I have loved the books of Jillian’s I have read thus far. My favorite tip is to have a plan. When you plan for a healthy lifestyle, it’s hard to get too far off track.

  • Caitlin

I know it doesn’t work for everyone but for myself, if I don’t get my workout in first thing in the morning before work it’s a lot less likely to happen. So in order to stay fit, healthy, and happy, early morning workouts are key.

  • Yummmm, I adore popchips – especially the Jalapeno and the Salt & Black Pepper flavors (dairy free!).

I think the two most basic principles I follow are drinking lots of water and getting ample sleep. Without those two, it’s hard to focus on fitness and nutrition!

  • My favorite tip would have to be drink water, I can’t believe how much better I feel when I do that.

  • What yummy flavors! My favorite healthy living tip is to figure out what works for YOU and do it! What is healthy for one person to eat may not agree with another person, so experiment and see what foods make you feel the best then stick to them.

  • Be prepared. Plan your workouts and your meals :)

  • Yum. Popchips make great chiplets. I am all about chiplets.

My favorite healthy living tip is to remember that everyone is an individual, and what works for one person might not work for you. Judgement is nothing but wasted time, whether you are being critical of yourself or others. [Also, eat lots of vegetables. ;) ]

  • Sam

My favorite health tip would be replacing bad carbs with veggies such as spaghetti squash instead of spaghetti noodles, cauliflower for pizza crust.

  • Jessica H

My tip is to set a goal other then weight – race or new clothes always motivate me to stick with it. And in the end you either just did a race or put on some cute clothes.

  • My favorite tip is BALANCE! It’s such a simple concept that I think many of us can forget.

  • My favorite tip is to make small changes. Change doesn’t have to be such a major life disruption because over time the small changes will add up over time. It’s how I lost 211 pounds and completed my first half marathon!

  • Joanna

My favorite tip is to plan meals and cook at home (vs. take-out and eating out). It’s so easy living in NY to grab a slice of pizza etc. but I feel so much better when I cook and know what I’m eating. Planning also deters me from straying from the plan (I think that may be circular reasoning haha but hopefully you get what I’m trying to say).

  • Caitlin F.

The best tip I’ve learned is balance. I used to start my day off on the wrong foot (read: dessert for breakfast), which lead to a downward spiral throughout the day. Now, if I have cookies for breakfast, I make sure to have a veggie packed lunch and light, high protein dinner.

  • My healthy tip is to be prepared….Have food packed for road trips, prepack lunches and have healthy snacks available. Always precut fruits and veggies.

  • Pam S

My favorite tip for healthy living is if you fail to prepare, prepare to fail. I definitely use this advice and planning and prepping meals is definitely the key to trying to stay on a healthy track when temptations try and get in the way!

  • Cassie

My favorite tip is to be easy on yourself. Expect yourself to screw up so you’re prepared to pick yourself up – eating, exercising, water consumption.

  • Laura O.

I’m a huge Jillian Michaels fan! My healthy tip is not to beat yourself up. Just because you overdo it one day doesn’t mean you have abandoned your healthy lifestyle.

  • Julie

My favorite tips are: preparation, eating alot of small (healthy) meals throughout the day and drinking water!

  • Amy

Water, water, water, also when you don’t feel like working out remember how good it makes you feel.

  • Julia

My tip is to keep track of everything you’re eating and how it makes you feel. I’ve always mentally tracked but kinda slacked off diligently recording/writing it down – I’ve recently started again and I make sure to note which meals keep me full for hours and which ones seem to barely fill me up at all.

  • Hmm health tip? Start little and don’t get down on yourself. Every day is a new day! :)

    Thanks for the fun giveaway!

  • Pam

Be friendly to people at the gym. When you make friends, you will look forward to seeing them and the workout is a bonus.

  • Kanoe

Ooh I love PopChips! my favorite healthy living tip is… actually ENJOY yourself LOL! It can be so hard when you’re trying to eat healthy & exercise to not feel like it is a job sometimes. It’s not a job it’s for the betterment of your life and for you to have a long happy, healthy life… ENJOY IT!! :-D And I love Jillian too :-D

  • Cellabella

Drink plenty of water! It hydrates your body and skin :)

  • Madeline

One of my favorite tips is to do activities you enjoy, especially ones you can do with friends. If you hate running but enjoy swimming – swim, don’t run! If you love dancing, take a dance class. If you hate dancing, go for a nice walk with friends. Being healthy is about appreciating life and what’s around you – not burning calories!

  • haha, one month! loooove popchips. Sweet potato and chili lime are my fav.

  • Favorite tip is to eat the rainbow of colors and limit processed foods.

  • I still haven’t tried popchips but I really want to! One day soon! I think my favorite tip for healthy living is to maintain a balance- you can’t say no to everything indulgent, so allow yourself a few free passes and just make sure the rest of your choices are healthy.

  • Kathy

My favorite tip for healthy living is think carefully about what goes in your mouth.

  • Nicole F.

I have a few healthy mantras I live by but I think one of the biggest is every little bit counts. Whether it’s an “office lap,” parking farther away at the mall, taking the stairs, or doing 10 minutes of yoga at night, it all adds up and small actions usually inspire and lead to bigger actions. GREAT giveaway!

  • Alexandra

My favorite health living strategy is “Everything in moderation” – this mantra is SO true in every aspect of life! Too much of anything – including exercise – is not a good thing! My other favorite healthy living tip is to drinkhalf of your body weight in ounces of water each day!

  • Shelby

My favorite healthy living tip is “when your legs get tired, run with your heart.” This quote goes for all exercises not just running. When you get that feeling that you want to quit, it’s too much, you can’t do it, just think to yourself how badly you really want. That feeling you have deep in your heart will bring you the strength you need to if finish. I find myself saying this to myself & sometimes out loud & it really works.

  • My favorite healthy living tip is that its all about BALANCE! Getting caught up in the extremes at either end of eating and exercise can be dangerous – but if you keep a balance in life: between healthy food and “treats”, exercise and rest, work life and personal life…you’ll be in good shape! Balance in all things!

  • Abby

My favorite healthy tip is to get up and walk around every 30 minutes you are at work. People get so caught up in their work they forget that they could be sitting for hours!

  • Kristen L.

My favorite healthy living tip is giving yourself little incentives to keep your motivation up when it comes to adopting a new workout plan or diet. Promising yourself you’ll get a manicure at the end of the week if you hit the gym 4 times or rewarding yourself with a new workout top after you’ve hit a distance milestone helps keep you focused. Just so long as you don’t reward yourself with food!

  • Lisa

My favorite tip is just to drink more water.

  • Digging into your blog a bit and another thing in common, I love Popchips hehe! And I LOVE the tip here about food not being fried being good. Um hello, tastes WAY better than fried food imho ;-) For me, also, working from home, I try to walk around during phone calls rather than just sitting all day. it helps me stretch, get my legs moving and stay alert ;-)

  • Kaitlyn

I LOVE Popchips! The hummus flavor is oh so yummy. My favorite healthy living tip would have to be to start off your morning with a nutritious breakfast. Always. For me, a big bowl of creamy oatmeal with peanut butter and banana starts my morning off on the right foot. I feel satisfied, strong, and healthy and it reminds me to make smart choices throughout the day!

  • Favorite tip is not to focus on all the things you shouldn’t be eating- focus on what you can and add those in. Tons of water, fruit, veggies, swapping whole wheat for white, etc. It’s all about the basics!

  • Jennie G

My favorite tip is to just drink water! Cut the diet soda, etc!

  • I think my favorite tip for healthy living is to find an exercise that you enjoy! If you don’t like running try yoga or spinning or swimming. I think most everyone would realize they like to be physically active if they just found an activity they enjoyed.

  • Sabina

My favorite tip is…”PARTNER UP” doing it by yourself can be quite intimidating and overwhelming…have a buddy be your accountability partner and do the runs, gym, food-watch, etc with you…makes it so much more doable :)

  • Kolya

Oh yum! I walk whenever I can instead of drive. I actually picked my current living situation for its walkability to some of my jobs, whole foods, bank etc. Love it!!!

  • Keep your legs moving- walking, running, swimming, biking, hiking, skipping, dancing . . . we can do a lot on our feet!

  • Natalie

I pack my workout clothes the nite before so I have no excuses!

  • Eliza

My favorite healthy living tip is to schedule in workouts…that way you make time for them and you don’t have an excuse to not go!

  • Favorite Tip is substitution…instead of cake…fruit, instead of chips in grease- try rice chips or baked etc…(POPCHIPS )

  • Jennifer

My favorite tip is to always carry a bottle of water and always have a good stock of produce.

  • Traci

My tip is…you already know what the store bought sweets taste like and the are not worth the time on the treadmill. Splurge for homemade treats that you haven’t had before.

  • Kaylee

    Moderation is key! :)

  • Missy

    Great giveaway!

My tip: Fit in stretching throughout the day. I sit on the floor and stretch while watching TV, reading the newspaper, or reading my laptop. I also try to stretch while brushing my teeth, waiting for something to heat up in the microwave, etc.

  • My favorite tip would probably be to relax. :) Stressing out everything (how many calories are in that, did i work out enough, etc…etc…) is only going to cause you to burn out. Be mindful, but don’t get too worked up about it all!

  • Whitney

My favorite tip … try new things! New fruits, vegetables, grains … you name it! And make sure to explore different colors too.

  • Ali Q

Get your workout in first thing in the morning. This eliminates your after work excuses!

  • my favorite tip is drinking lots of water! staying hydrated and keeps me from eating too much

  • Jess H

My favorite tip is to focus on small changes. You don’t need to run a marathon…but starting with 10 minutes of exercise each day is a great start and will likely lead to even more exercise (and who knows…maybe even a marathon!) The same is true for eating healthy — start with a little less dessert and eventually your dessert portion sizes will get smaller and smaller. :)

  • Georgiana

Eat lots of whole fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean protein and stay away from processed foods!

  • My favorite tips include drinking water, standing/pacing while talking or typing at work, and taking time to de-stress at night before bed.

  • I have Jillian’s Master Your Metabolism, and would love to win a signed copy of Slim for Life! My favorite tips for healthy living are eating fresh foods in moderation, staying hydrated, and moving daily!

  • My only valuable healthy tip is to have a my fitness pal app on your phone to monitor your calorie intake everyday. It helps you lose the weight in a secure and consistent manner.

My favorite tip is to eat the rainbow, drink lots of water, and do what you love! It’s the best way to stay motivated.

  • Jaye Ann

I love pop chips! They are one of my keys to healthy snacking on the road, I always take them with me on road trips.

  • My favorite tip for healthy eating: eat food, not too much, mostly plants (thank you Michael Pollan!)

  • Caitlyn

I agree that a tracking app is a really great tool. I would also say it is important to focus on health and not just weight loss – eating whole grains and more vegetables, learning new recipes and new cooking techniques – these are long term – just eating lean cuisines every meal or those meal bars are not sustainable.

  • Jessica

My favorite tip is to just show up! Even when you don’t feel like working out, if you just show up and start going through the motions chances are the motivation will follow!

  • My favorite tip: eat clean (or, alternative, “eat real food”). I am great at exercising but bad about putting crap in my mouth and REALLY bad about portion control. I’ve found that if I allow myself treats, but make them healthy/ier (even as simple as eating homemade pie made with less sugar instead of a preservative filled store-bought one), I eat less and I feel better about myself later, the next day, and the next week. AND portion control is much easier with clean, delicious food.

  • Samantha

My favorite tip is to keep active and keep moving! Moderation is also key.

  • AHHH awesome giveaway!!! My greatest tip for healthy living is to learn to become creative in the kitchen! It makes life so much easier and enjoyable! Also, always being prepared has saved me multiple times :) ) Looks like if I won these pop chips I’d be storing them in my car for emergencies! ;)
    Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  • I try and make healthier recipes of junk food! I also try and eat less processed food! Try and eat nothing that comes out of a box!

  • I can’t tell you how much I LOVE popchips!!! My tip, make a small change. For me, I’ve been watching my daily walking with my new Fitbit, small steps add up and I like to compete with myself. :)

  • wendy

I’d love to read Jillian’s new book and I haven’t tried Popchips yet.

  • Jasmine A.

I think my favorite tip is to drink plenty of water! No matter where you’re at, what your goal is, what kind of diet you’re on (vegan/vegetarian/paleo/etc.) we ALL need to drink plenty of water!

  • Rachel

My favorite tip for healthy living is definitely to stick to a clean eating diet as much as possible! Everything in moderation :) and I LOVE popchips btw!!

  • My favorite tip is to plan ahead — that’s the only way to make it work. That and keeping junk food out of the pantry.

  • VivianS (@AskViv)

I try to buy organic or natural foods for my family

  • My favorite tip is that every small decision counts! Like choosing pop chips over regular chips – I LOVE thai sweet chili pop chips!!!!!!!!

  • Don’t live with your parents for 4 months, especially during the winter when your treadmill is in storage along with all your exercise DVDs, gear, etc.

  • Corina

My favorite healthy tip is to get plenty of sleep and drink enough water so that you have to go to the restroom at least every two hours. What a great giveaway!

  • My favorite tip is that I pack my lunch the night before- by planning out each meal (and I make a snack for mid-morning and mid-afternoon), I make sure to stay within my caloric/nutritional goals and have a balanced diet! Now my weakness is resisting chocolate in the evenings… would love to hear some tips for resisting that : )

I’ll share anyway: my favorite tip is balance. Balance in eating, working out, sleep, stress….it all adds up!
